Carys
Swimming Teacher
Hi, I'm Carys! My journey into teaching began when I volunteered as an assistant coach at my childhood swimming club, City of St Albans Swimming Club (CoStA), alongside competing to regional standard.
After deciding to step away from competitive swimming, I knew I wanted to stay involved in the sport. I qualified as a Level 2 swimming teacher in August 2022, having previously worked as a Level 1 swimming assistant. During my A-levels, I taught at a local swim school, where I particularly enjoyed helping younger swimmers develop their water confidence, water skills and stroke technique.
I joined the Quackers team in October 2025, shortly after starting my second year at the University of Nottingham. I've really enjoyed my time here, especially getting to know so many swimmers while covering different lessons and teaching a wide range of age groups and abilities. My favourite stroke to teach is butterfly, likely due to my competitive background in the stroke. Seeing a swimmer's confidence grow as they master one of the most challenging strokes, and celebrating their progress along the way, is what makes teaching swimming so rewarding.
